We are excited to announce our acceptance into the NY I-Corps Hub x Gotham Innovation Gambit Virtual I-Corps Lean Bootcamp Course Spring 2023. The New York City Innovation Hot Spot sponsors the program in conjunction with the New York I-Corps Hub and CUNY I-Corps.
Announcement
The NY I-Corps Hub x Gotham Innovation Gambit Virtual I-Corps Lean Bootcamp Course Program accepted The Difference into its program. Additionally, this entrepreneurial training course will be executed during the Spring of 2023. Furthermore, this National Science Foundation (NSF) Regional I-Corps program is modified from the national I-Corps program. Moreover, the program teaches the business model canvas and the customer discovery process to teams. Furthermore, teams connect with the nationwide I-Corps network of instructors and leaders from sites, nodes, and the greater entrepreneurial ecosystem. Moreover, participants will conduct customer discovery interviews and be eligible for nomination to the national NSF I-Corps. Furthermore, teams will receive guided help in navigating “Next Steps” resources for entrepreneurs and startup founders. Additionally, Team Participants can request up to $1,000 in funding in their final presentations on April 14, 2023.
Acceptance into the program is a strategic advancement to our Grant Funding Campaign. The Difference is pursuing grants from various awarding agencies. We started work in February 2023 for an NSF Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant. The NSF accepted our Project Pitch on February 10, 2023, and has requested a full grant submission. We learned that “NSF lineage”, or participation in other NSF programs is helpful when submitting grant proposals. The NSF’s response to our Project Pitch recommended additional, substantial customer discovery work. Therefore, the Gotham Innovation Gambit is strategic not only from participation, but its customer discovery focus is also ideal.
About The New York City Innovation Hot Spot, NY I-Corps Hub, and CUNY I-Corps
The NYC Innovation Hot Spot provides business incubator services to qualified entities to facilitate company growth and encourage job creation. The Hot Spot, based in Harlem, coordinates a rich regional entrepreneurial ecosystem, partnering with 45 local incubators across all five boroughs of NYC. Operated in coordination with the leadership of the NY I-Corps Hub at the City University of New York, the Hot Spot provides these incubators and members opportunities to participate in NSF I-Corps Lean LaunchPad entrepreneurship training and access certain New York State tax benefits. The Hot Spot accepts referrals from these incubators for Innovation Hot Spot consideration, which may ultimately lead to STARTUP NY certification at a CUNY location.
